Westonia49 refers to a place, a time and a series of artworks. The place is both real-and-imagined: a land of sea and industry, of water, fire, smoke and metal. Westonia exists outside of time, and yet is consituted from moments, lived by myself and others. Photographs, paintings, and many others things try to speak of Westonia. Often, these things are made from the flotsam and jetsam that wash up on the foreshore, or are reconfigured from salvaged materials. Precious materials are mixed with other 'stuff' that is just as precious, but usually considered rubbish. The worlds that appear are made from what we leave behind.
I don't use my name because this work is generated from a lived world that extends far beyond me; and because, when some thing is created, it takes on its own life, one that i cannot claim to own.
I tell stories of Westonia so that the things comprised of its elements appear within a context that is always social and collaborative. Without the people who live in Westonia, there would be no work.
I do sell some of the work, though. Because I want them to find their place, and because then i have the time to make others.
