ARTIST BIO

DEBORAH WALKER has exhibited extensively in both painting and graphic medium regularly with more than 80 exhibitions and 16 solo exhibitions both at a national and international level.

The artist has received numerous awards, grants and residencies that include Artist in Residence at Griffith University and the Arthur Boyd Trust, Bundanon.

She was been a finalist in many national prizes including:  Gallipoli Art Prize 2017,

Bayside Art Prize, 2016/17, Portia Geach Portrait Prize, 2014/15/16

Geelong Art Prize, 2014, Doug Moran Portrait Prize, 2015,

As well as being part of Melbourne Now Open Studio Program at St. Kilda Council Art Studios.

She is represented in all major collections throughout Australia including Australian National Gallery and NGV as well as collections in U.S.A and Europe.

Her work has been described as both a straightforward representation of the everyday with a mysterious enigmatic quality that transcends the everyday.  Simple daily rituals such as reading a book are simple act that have treated with subtle consideration of figures and objects. These motifs are explored at length in Walker’s imagery, where the poetic in the narratives fosters a connection between the viewer andthe artworks.
